United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Ty Syro Yellow Eyes, age 19, of Rosebud, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on June 19, 2012, and pled guilty to First Degree Burglary and Resisting a Federal Officer. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 25 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The conviction stems from an incident that took place on January 20, 2012, when Yellow Eyes broke into the Rosebud Dormitory and took property that belonged to the dormitory. Yellow Eyes stole a vehicle and later eluded officers who attempted to stop and apprehend him.

The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for September 4, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
